Donald Trumps Granddaughter Shares Update After Unexpected Medical Procedure Photos

The U.S. president's granddaughter, Kai Trump, has shared an unexpected health update after undergoing surgery, forcing the young golfer to rethink her plans for the coming months.

The 19-year-old golfer revealed her latest procedure in a social media post featuring a hospital selfie. After previously opening up about a difficult recovery and another illness, she is once again focused on her health and future in golf.

Before agreeing to surgery, Trump sought advice from her family, coaches, and athletic training staff. While the procedure was not part of her original plans, she felt it was the right step to protect her health and future in golf.

"It's certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn," she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.

Trump said she was approaching the situation with patience and determination, knowing that recovery would require time away from the sport.

Trump's hospitalization stemmed from an injury she sustained during a golf competition earlier in the season.

"I recently underwent surgery to repair a wrist injury I sustained during my first tournament of the season," she revealed.

Trump had initially hoped to recover without an operation. After discussing her options with those closest to her, however, she decided surgery was the best choice for her health and future in golf.

She underwent treatment at HSS in New York and expressed gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for her. "A special thank you to Dr. Carlson and the incredible team at HSS in New York for taking such great care of me," she wrote.

Alongside the announcement, Trump shared a hospital photo showing her resting against white pillows in a patterned gown and black-framed glasses.

A large black brace supported her arm, while medical tape and tubing were visible near her other arm. She looked toward the camera with a slight smile.

On Instagram, users responded to the announcement with messages of encouragement and concern. One netizen offered a simple wish: "Speedy recovery 💪🏻❤️🙏."

Another user expressed affection for the young golfer, writing, "Kai😢 you are a very kindhearted girl and all of world love you princess of USA ✨💋 [sic]."

A commenter praised her resilience: "Strongest person ever ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹." Someone else shared concern about her condition, remarking, "Can't imagine the pain you must feel🙏 heartbreaking 😢."

Trump did not share details about any pain she experienced following the procedure. Instead, she focused on the support she received throughout the ordeal. "Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn't be more grateful," she wrote.

Following surgery, Trump has focused on recovery as she prepares for her college golf career.

According to her official University of Miami athletics profile, she is a freshman on the Hurricanes women's golf roster for the 2026-27 season. Before joining the program, she helped her high school team win four consecutive district titles.

Although she has not announced when she expects to compete again, she remains hopeful about getting back on the course.

"I can't wait to be back with my team, doing what I love," she wrote. Trump ended her update with a promise: "I'll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever!"

Trump had previously documented another medical setback involving her wrist. In a January 2026 Instagram post, she announced that she had undergone surgery on her left wrist the day before.

The post featured a black background with a written statement explaining the procedure. Trump said doctors operated to address damage to the tissues stabilizing her extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendon and her triangular fibrocartilage complex, which helps support the wrist.

The operation took place at Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute and was performed by Dr. Thomas Graham, chief of Jefferson Orthopedics. Trump said the surgery was successful and looked forward to rehabilitation.

Months later, she shared a more detailed account of her recovery in a recent YouTube vlog.

Filmed on April 18, the video showed Trump walking through a sunny golf course alongside her father, Donald Trump Jr. Wearing a white golf cap and sleeveless polo shirt, she carried a golf club while discussing how the injury had affected her ability to play.

Trump explained that the problem began several months before the operation. "I got surgery January 6th and then I hurt it originally November, but I tried casting it because I thought I thought it was going to heal," she said.

When the injury failed to improve after two months, she underwent surgery. By the time of the conversation, she had not returned to hitting golf balls.

Trump had originally hoped to resume playing by her May 12 birthday. However, she acknowledged that the goal was no longer realistic. "I'm hoping, like, July, I can start playing again full-time. I think that's like a good realistic time frame," she said.

Her father brought some humor to the discussion by suggesting, "You can play putt-putt golf." Trump responded, "Yeah…I can putt 18 holes, but definitely cannot hit a shot."

Despite regaining some forearm strength, Trump remained cautious about pushing herself too soon. When her father raised the possibility of another wrist injury, she admitted, "That's my biggest fear." She also described shoulder discomfort, which she believed was related to uneven strength as she worked through rehabilitation.

Months after discussing her wrist surgery, Trump revealed another health setback that interrupted her first week of school.

In an August vlog, the young golfer documented how she struggled with an illness that affected her appetite, disrupted her filming schedule, and eventually prompted her to return home.

The video first showed Trump in her kitchen, where her friend Emma had brought groceries to help her get through the illness. Trump explained why she needed the assistance, "Well, Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven't eaten in like 3 days."

Emma had selected foods that Trump could prepare without much effort, knowing she was not feeling well enough to cook. "Yeah, it's all precooked, so she doesn't have to do anything crazy," Emma explained.

She also brought fruit, pasta, bread, and prosciutto. Emma mentioned that Trump had been relying on diet sodas, so she wanted to make sure her friend had other options available.

Later in the vlog, Trump appeared in a car wearing a green hoodie as she opened up about the illness. She revealed that she had contracted strep throat shortly after starting school.

"I've been sick with Strep. So, I actually have not vlogged. I got sick with Strep on Wednesday, my first week of school," she said.

The illness had also affected her voice, making it difficult for her to continue her usual video updates. "This is the best I've sounded in probably four days now," Trump added.

Rather than remain at school while recovering, Trump decided to return to Jupiter, Florida. "I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick. I needed like my mom to nurse me back to health," she explained.

From her earlier wrist surgery to her bout with strep throat, Kai Trump has shared several health setbacks with her followers. Her latest update brings the focus back to her golf career, as she works toward returning to the course.
