Isabella Strahan was preparing to begin college as a freshman in 2023 when she was unexpectedly diagnosed with brain cancer. The news changed everything overnight. She soon began an intense treatment process that included several surgeries. At one point, doctors even had to drill a small opening in her skull to drain fluid and relieve pressure. Throughout the difficult months of treatment, Isabella remained open with supporters and often shared updates about her health. After a long and challenging battle, she was declared cancer-free in the summer of 2024.
Now Isabella is speaking publicly about the experience and about the possibility that the illness could return. While she admits the uncertainty can be frightening, she says she refuses to live her life focused on fear. “Obviously you can’t predict what can happen, and that can be scary,” Isabella said in an interview reported by PEOPLE. “But I don’t think you can live your life only in fear. I want to live every day and take every opportunity.”
During her treatment, Isabella had the full support of her family, especially her father Michael Strahan. The Good Morning America host has spoken about how strong his daughter remained even during the hardest moments. He recalled times when she was exhausted, barely eating, and physically drained from treatment, yet she continued to fight. One moment that stayed with him was when Isabella told him directly, “Dad, I’ll do whatever it takes. I want to live.”

Isabella says sharing her experience has become important to her because she hopes it can encourage others going through similar challenges. She explained that while the diagnosis will always be part of her life, it does not define who she is. Instead, she hopes to use her voice to bring awareness and support to others facing cancer.
“I see the impact that can come from sharing my story,” Isabella said. “My diagnosis is part of me, but it doesn’t define me. I want to be a voice for others.”
While Isabella is determined to move forward without fear, her father admits the experience has left a lasting emotional mark on him. Michael Strahan says doctors feel confident about Isabella’s recovery, and that is what the family chooses to hold onto. Still, he says the worry never fully disappears. Even with positive news, he admits that every parent continues to feel nervous after something like this. “Her doctors feel very confident that she’s going to be okay,” Michael said. “That’s what we hold on to, but you’re still nervous every time. That feeling never completely goes away.”
The upcoming television special is expected to provide a deeper look at Isabella’s strength, her recovery, and the support system that helped her through one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
