Lionel Richie rushed to the ICU following St Louis concert

Legendary singer-songwriter Lionel Richie caused alarm across the entertainment community after checking himself into a hospital intensive care unit following a weekend concert in St. Louis, Missouri. The 77-year-old music icon went to the hospital purely as a precaution as what he’d experienced at the concert marked his second health scare this summer, The Rock Revival reported.

The incident took place on Saturday night, August 29, 2026, after Richie headlined the annual summer-finale concert at The Muny open-air theatre in Forest Park. He treated the crowd with an energetic performance, earning widespread praise from thousands of fans on social media. Yet, at the very end of his set, the singer showed signs of physical fatigue.

Fans could tell Richie was having a hard time during his performance of All Night Long when they noticed he motioned for his team to bring out a chair for him.

The singer was remarkably candid with the St. Louis audience when speaking of his recent tour troubles, explaining: “Some things have been happening on this tour that kind of shook me up a little bit, because I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on. I went back to the doctor, and he said, ‘You are suffering from dehydration.’”

He was also seen taking electrolytes. He joked with the audience about the taste, saying, “I’m telling you, this stuff is nasty — but it works.”

Following the concert, Richie checked himself into a local St. Louis hospital and according to sources close to the production, he was admitted to the ICU for extensive tests. Doctors initially determined he was dealing with slight dehydration, TMZ reported.

Though an early discharge was initially expected, doctors opted to keep him for further observation. He is reported to be in stable condition and high spirits.

Fans who attended the concert took to Facebook to share how energetic and fun the performance was, with one person writing, “Such a good show! He was funny too! Love knowing all the songs and they all were great!”

Another user shared, “It was a fantastic show! He still sounds and looks great and he was charming and personable! And then to see him at The Muny was perfect!”

A third person commented, “He was amazing, funny, commanded the stage.” Someone else remarked, “You did again, thank you.”

Another commenter stated, “You can tell he struggling in this performance… but I love his music. I love his voice… his energy.. but he is 77.. and I just want him to be OK!!! ❤️ you have given us so much great music thank you Lionel Richie!!”

Someone else chimed in, “I would not be surprised if he was overall fatigued and dehydrated, and possibly coming down with a sudden illness. He’s 77 years old and it touring takes a toll on an artist.”

These recent events mirror a similar scare earlier in the year. On June 24, 2026, while performing alongside Earth, Wind & Fire on their joint “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, Richie cut his set short after telling the audience he felt “dizzy” and “strange”. The incident prompted him to temporarily step away from the stage and subsequently postpone upcoming concerts in Chicago and Columbus.

Even with the hospital visit, insiders close to the tour say Richie is feeling fine and resting up. He has a short break before his next scheduled dates, and fans globally are sending him tons of support and good luck.
