It seems that more Americans are considering following the path of celebrity couples like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, as well as Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, by relocating to the United Kingdom.
Applications from U.S. citizens seeking British citizenship reportedly reached a record level in 2025. According to a report cited by Bloomberg, nearly 9,000 Americans applied, with about 2,490 submissions in the final quarter of the year alone.
The newly released data represents roughly a 42 percent increase compared to the previous year, suggesting growing interest among Americans in living abroad.
Some analysts believe the surge may be connected to the current political atmosphere in the United States. During the presidency of Donald Trump, discussions about relocation and international citizenship have become more common among certain groups of Americans.
Nick Rollason, head of immigration at the London-based law firm Kingsley Napley, suggested that the political climate could be playing a role.
He noted that “the political climate in the U.S. appears to be a significant motivator for individuals seeking a more stable and predictable environment abroad.”
While the numbers remain relatively small compared to the overall U.S. population, the upward trend indicates that interest in relocation — particularly to the United Kingdom — has grown noticeably in recent years.
